DECC increases feed-in-tariff budget
11/1/2012
In an attempt to prevent the subsidy scheme exceeding its limit, the government has raised the feed-in-tariff spending cap by £197m after re-allocating funds that were earmarked for the Renewables Obligation (RO) scheme.
A document was published last month that had details of changes to three energy policies where the Treasury has imposed spending caps intended to help avoid steep rises in energy bills. The document revealed that the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) had shifted almost £200m from funds previously available for the RO scheme into the feed-in-tariff budget.
This means that the budget for the feed-in-tariff has jumped from £867m to £1,064m.
A spokeswoman of from the DECC has told BusinessGreen; “This is purely a technical adjustment and makes no different to the actual amount of subsidy available for these levies. It merely clarifies the amount that was always available for these schemes. Nor does it change the department s concerns about the risks to the FIT budget of continuing with the current tariffs for solar PV.”
