DECC confirms plan to cut FIT

19/1/2012

Government confirms plan to cut solar incentive from March 2012.

The government has revealed its contingency plan this afternoon, in case they lose the court battle to uphold proposed cuts to the feed in tariff.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has release a ministerial statement providing further details on how it plans to reduce the feed-in-tariff incentive for solar projects.

In essence, the statement confirms that if the Government loses its appeal against the court, ruling that the cuts that took place in December 2011 were unlawful, then the feed-in-tariff will resume to the original rate of 43.3p/kWh until March 3rd. In March 2012, this rate could then potentially be cut as low as 9p/kWh for installation after this date.

The report also confirms that should the appeal be won, then rate of 21p/kWh will remain until April 1st 2012.

Energy and Climate Minister Greg Barker has said:
“I know this is a difficult time for the sector and I want to do as much as I can to end the current uncertainty created by the legal challenge. We must reduce the level of FITs for solar panels as quickly as possible, to protect consumer bills and avoid a bust up in he who Feed-in-Tariff budget.”

The court’s decision is expected to be announced on February 9th 2012. Freesource will aim to keep you updated on any further developments in the case.

Once the announcement comes, Freesource are predicting a surge of interest in PV from people who want to make the most of the remainder of the feed-in-tariff as after April the tariff rates could drop dramatically no matter what the outcome of this trial.

Freesource are urging people to book a survey and receive a quote from us, even if you would like to wait for the announcement to confirm whether you would like to go ahead. This way if you decide to go ahead, you will be able to miss the rush of people and have your installation completed quickly to make sue you receive the best feed-in-tariff rates.

Our surveys are completely no obligation, and if you decide not to go ahead then you will receive no sales pressure.
