DECC sets to reduce Fit uncertainty

9/1/2012

The Government has released a statement confirming the feed-in-tariff rates for a range of possible outcomes after the hearing for the "unlawful" feed-in-tariff consultation deadline, which is set to take place on January 13th, 2012.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) released the statement on Friday afternoon confirming the 4kW tariff rates until March 31, 2012 assuming that the appeal is heard. The aim of this was to settle fears of companies who were beginning to struggle with how to advise potential solar customers on the future of the market.

The DECC states:
“The tariff rate for PV installations less than or equal to 4kW will not fall below 21p for installations with an eligibility date between 12th December 2011 and March 31, 2012.”

The appeal permission hearing is due to be held on January 13th 2012, which will be followed by the full hearing. The findings are set to be announced the following week.

If the DECC loses the appeal, it may turn to the Supreme Court. It also could mean they are forced to reduce the tariff for all PV systems installed after April to just 9p/kWh due to Solar Power Portal’s calculations that the FiT calculation is already blown. The DECC has stressed that this is not the way they wish things to go.

However, if they win the case, a response to the consultation will be published around the end of this month, along with a Phase 2 comprehensive review.

We will alert you of any more news as soon as we are aware of it.
