Freesource Sponsors School Recycling Week
26/8/2011
Pre-school children learn about recycling Children at North Wraxall pre-school near Marshfield are learning about the impact rubbish has had on our world and why we need to recycle during their ‘green awareness and healthy eating week’. The week-long theme, which is being sponsored by local solar energy company ‘Freesource Energy’ is the first of a number of environmentally themed activities which the pre-school has planned to get the children thinking about their world. In addition to learning how to sort recyclable materials, the children have been encouraged to taste new healthy foods, to partake in sensory food experiences and to enjoy junk modeling. Parents have been encouraged to reinforce the message by packing extra healthy lunchboxes and have contributed junk for the children to ‘recycle’ into masterpieces. Tina Honywill, the pre-school manager, said: “It’s been a really exciting week – and a great way to introduce the children to the topic of the environment. We’ve used the theme in so many parts of the curriculum – and the kids have enjoyed every minute.” Toby Webb, director at Freesource Energy, said “I believe passionately that encouraging children to care for their environment from an early age will make them appreciate the world around them and I’m really proud to be sponsoring such an important learning experience for the children at the pre-school.”
