Solar PV to contribute to EPC ratings
20/2/2012
The government has confirmed that solar PV systems could count towards energy efficiency ratings, making it easier for homes to achieve EPC level D to qualify for feed-in-tariff payments.
Solar PV installations after April 1st will require an EPC certificate awarding the property level D or above in order to be eligible for the feed-in-tariff and it has now been announced that the solar PV modules themselves will contribute to the EPC rating.
This will make it a lot easier to reach EPC level D, especially for some older properties across the UK. Just over half of all residential properties and 65% of non-domestic buildings meet EPC level D already.
Now that the solar PV modules will contribute to EPC ratings, some level E properties will be able to upgrade to level D just by installing the system without the need for energy efficiency improvements.
For those who still won’t quite meet the required EPC rating can make simple changes such as additional loft insulation or double glazing to help boost their energy efficiency level.
