Supreme Court hearing could take up to a year

25/1/2012

The Supreme Court has warned that if the Government launches an appeal against the feed-in-tariff ruling, it could take up to a year to be heard.

The Supreme Court have not decided whether the case fits their criteria and have told Solar Power Portal and have said that the DECC’s case could take months to reach the court rooms if it is taken on.

The industry has advised that it is against the appeal if the Government does appeal to the Supreme Court, the uncertainty surrounding the future of the feed-in-tariff rates will increase.

Ben Warren, Partner for environmental finance at Ernst and Young has said:
“The future of the feed-in tariff beyond April 2012 is now hugely uncertain, and should Government chose to appeal through the Supreme Court there may even be an unknown outcome for panels installed from December 2011. Government and industry need to urgently work together to create a sustainable solar industry in the UK.”

The decision as to whether the Governments appeal will be heard is expected in the next few days. Please keep an eye on our FIT update page or facebook and twitter for the latest updates.
