Solar Panel Rooftop Mounting Systems

Most rooftop solar panel systems will require some form of superstructure which the panels are attached to, these are fairly standard and lightweight to ensure the building is capable of supporting them.

The complex element is the fixing to the roof and there are simply hundreds of solutions. Getting the right one needs experience to avoid long term damage by quick fixes and the wrong choices.

Solar systems should be designed with long term solutions in mind, with knowledge and approval of building regulations. You should always ensure building regulations officer has approved your solar installation. A properly qualified solar PV installer will assist you with the calculations for this process and should collect the right information for this at the initial survey when they examine your roof inside and out.

Things to look for when connecting solar panels to the roof

  • Angle and pitch of the roof
  • Age of the roof structure and covering
  • Condition of the roof inside as well as outside
  • Type of roof covering - solar systems can be fitted in and on roof depending on the visual effect you want and your budget

Aside from new builds, no two roofs are the same and we as an installer us a building regulations certified engineering calculation to ensure your roof mounts are sized and specified correctly as required under MCS guidelines. Many installers do not have this capability in-house; we do!

To get it wrong can cost you thousands from problems associated from water ingress to structural load changes and vibration from wind load. If someone sizes your system over the phone and doesn't visit the site and provide you with this information then be concerned. We provide rooftop solar fittings to suit all kinds of roofs to ensure you avoid these pitfalls.

These rooftop systems are suitable for slate, tiles, wooden roofs, corrugated metal roofs, bespoke architect designed roofs, in roof solutions as well as on roof. In some cases there is a requirement for an A-frame or ballast system for flat roofs, but great care has to be taken that the roof can be fixed to securely and support the additional weight.
