Most rooftop solar panel systems will require some form of superstructure which the panels are attached to, these are fairly standard and lightweight to ensure the building is capable of supporting them.
The complex element is the fixing to the roof and there are simply hundreds of solutions. Getting the right one needs experience to avoid long term damage by quick fixes and the wrong choices.
Solar systems should be designed with long term solutions in mind, with knowledge and approval of building regulations. You should always ensure building regulations officer has approved your solar installation. These rooftop systems are suitable for slate, tiles, wooden roofs, corrugated metal roofs, bespoke architect designed roofs, in roof solutions as well as on roof. In some cases there is a requirement for an A-frame or ballast system for flat roofs, but great care has to be taken that the roof can be fixed to securely and support the additional weight.
