Can I tap into geothermal energy?

Geothermal energy is rarely used in the United Kingdom. Ground source energy is not the same as geothermal energy and so this may cause a little confusion.

To tap into Geothermal energy you need to bore down to a level where the earth's natural heat can be extracted. This could involve significant drilling on an industrial scale and as therefore not currently an option for domestic power in the UK. We do not sit on a tectonic fault line and have low levels of geothermal activity close to the surface.

In other countries where geothermal activity is high (such as Iceland) they have sucessfully used geothermal energy as a direct heating source. However, they have to worry about volcanoes and earthquakes whereas we do not, so there is a bright side to the equation.

Although geothermal energy is not currently an option, ground source energy is definitely a possible solution you should investigate.
