Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is currently only available for commercial properties looking at installing renewable heat technologies.

If you are interested in receiving the commercial RHI - click here.

The RHI for domestic properties was due to be released in the Autumn of 2012, however the government is now delaying its launch until mid-2013.

For updates on the status fo the domestic RHI - click here.

It is hoped that the RHI will work along side the Green Deal. This will then allow a more whole-house approach to heat production and energy saving.

How does the scheme work?

The scheme works in a similar way to the feed-in-tariff.

Homeowners will receive a quarterly payment for generating heat from renewable sources.

It is run by the government and administered by the official regulator Ofgem, who pay the tariffs with the money from the Treasury.

It is proposed that the scheme will be paid for around 20 years and will be index-linked for inflation.

Who is eligible for the scheme?

Technologies such as solar thermal, air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps may be eligible for the RHI, however this has not been confirmed.

The RHI will be eligible for anyone who has installed a renewable heat technology with an MCS accredited installer since July 2009.

You are also eligible for the RHI if you have claimed the Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP).

How do I benefit from the domestic RHI?

Once the scheme becomes live in Summer 2013 you will be able to apply through Ofgem. They will then check your details and accredit your system under the terms of the RHI. You will be able to apply online, by phone or in writing.

We will keep you updated with information when it is released. Keep an eye our domestic RHI update page, or on our news, facebook or twitter pages for more information.
