EPC Certificates

What is an EPC?

EPC stands for Energy Performance Certificates.

An EPC certificate gives information on your home’s energy use, carbon emissions and also recommends ways of reducing them. The recommendation report lists suggested improvements, possible cost savings and how the changes would improve the energy and carbon emissions ratings of the property.

These recommendations could suggest energy efficiency improvements such as loft insulation or double glazing.

The rating system measures the energy and carbon emission efficiency and uses a grade from ‘A’ to ‘G’. The most efficient rating is ‘A’, while the most inefficient rating is ‘G’.

The average efficiency rating of homes in the UK currently is ‘D’.

The recommendations provided on an EPC certificate are not compulsory actions, but if you choose to complete them it could make your property more attractive for sale or rent, or even eligible for solar subsidy; the feed-in-tariff.

Solar PV Requirements

From April 1st, it will be compulsory for homes installing solar PV to be EPC level ‘D’ in order to receive the feed-in-tariff.

How do I get an EPC certificate?

Freesource Energy can provide EPC certificates.

We will send a trained surveyor to inspect your property and then send your EPC certificate along with the recommendations directly to you.
