LED Lamps
LED lamps are now being offered as an energy efficient equivalent to standard halogen and incandescent bulbs.
LED stands for light-emitting diodes. Traditionally, LED’s are small and give out only a small amount of light, however, a range has now been developed that is suitable for a domestic and commercial properties. They are intended to be interchangeable with incandescent and halogen light bulbs with standard Edison screw, bi-pin or bayonet fittings.
These LED lamps run at a lower wattage, but still produce the same amount of light. This in turn helps decrease your energy bills as well as carbon emissions without having to alter your lighting dramatically.
LED lamps also have an average lifespan of 30,000 to 50,000 operating hours, this means it could last anywhere from 3 to 6 years if you kept it on all the time. Compared to the average 1,000 hours lifespan of an incandescent bulb is a huge improvement. Led lamps do not just ‘burn out’, they gradually fade over time
LED lamps have an advantage over standard energy saving light bulbs because they do not need to warm up before starting, meaning they turn on as soon as you hit the switch.

The National Trust
The National Trust switched 550 sites to LED lighting in an initiative called ‘The Big Switch’.
They used the same LED lamps that Freesource Energy use and made a saving of £790 per site, which is £434,000 savings for 550 sites!
The cost of install was £345 per site. The cost of the bulbs is offset by the savings made, meaning the bulbs pay for themselves in under 1 year.
