Commercial RHI

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is similar to the feed-in-tariff but for technologies such as heat pumps and solar thermal.

It has been available since July 2011 for commercial properties and any system that was commissioned on or after 15 July 2009 is eligible to claim.

In order to be eligible for the RHI you must meet the following criteria:

• The installation must be of an eligible technology type and size

• Must have been completed and commissioned on or after 15 July 2009

• The generated heat must be being used for an eligible purpose

• The installation must be under 200kWth

• No grant can be paid in respect of any purchasing or installing of the technology

• Must be MCS accredited

These are the current RHI payment rates:

Solar Thermal - Less than 200 kWth - 8.5p/kWh

Small GSHP - Less than 100 kWth - 4.3p/kWh

Large GSHP - More than 100 kWth - 3p/kWh

Small Biomass - Less than 200kWth - 7.6p/kWh

Medium Biomass - 200kWth – 1000 kWth - 4.7p/kWh

Large Biomass - 100 kWth - 2.6p/kWh

Biomethane - Less than 200kWth - 6.5p/kWh
